Overall Service
A thorough overhaul and roof repair by a thoroughly professional team.

On 15 Jul 2018, Mick Malton wrote:

Chris and his team did a brilliant and thoroughly professional job on surveying and then fixing the roof on our Edwardian house. The service was outstanding - Chris and his team turn up when they say they will and do the job they promise to do. The team worked really hard in baking sunshine and cleared up after themselves. Utterly reliable. I was kept informed throughout the job and nothing was too much trouble for Chris. They really want to get the job right and they did. The price was good and most importantly, we trust what they have done.

Great Job

Just wanted to say thank you to Chris and the boys for a great job. They replaced my soffits, mended the guttering and did a sterling paint job to finish off. Chris was professional, turned up to quote quickly, was there to do the job when he said he would and very reasonably priced. If you’re looking for a trusted tradesman then look no further, I would recommend them to anyone. Clean and tidy workers. Many thanks Pam

Chris and his crew did a brilliant job from start to finish. Came out and quoted promptly, very friendly and approachable. Did an extremely thorough, efficient job on the church gutters, sent photos so we didn't have to brave any ladders!
We will be using CJB Roofing for twice yearly maintenance now, and I would have no hesitation in recommending their excellent services.

Slated Roof and Lead Valley Repairs

On 30 May 2018, Richard Toes wrote:

Chris has carried out 4 repairs on my old house after we called him in to repair leaks. Chris investigated and showed me the problems I had, repairs needed and gave quotes.
He showed me all the problems and then the finished work which is of top quality. Chris kept in contact during the repairs and the roof is now of top quality and good for a few more years yet!
Unlike a lot of traders he keeps in contact and never disappears on other jobs for days on end.

Prompt and Professional

Chris and his team are excellent. it was only a "small roof repair" but the whole job was priced and completed within a week. They turned up when they said they would, kept me informed of progress with photos before, during and after, cleared up the mess and were even considerate of the planting in the garden. I would certainly recommend them.

Chris and the team did a beautiful job on my property. This included repairing and replacing the soffits/fascias/bargeboards, painting and protecting all the wood and replacing all of the guttering.
They are hard working, polite and friendly with a good attention to detail.
Chris is a gentleman and explained everything from start to finish with progress along the way.
I would not hesitate in using them again or recommending them to others.

Things I wish I had known before having a roof replaced

Things I wish I had known before having a roof replaced
There is no temporary scaffolding roof, so removing the old roof requires dry weather to take the old roof off and install the breathable membrane.
That it rains a lot when you don’t want it to, but that a breathable membrane is fine as a roof, however it is always good to have the tiles back on.
Just how damaged and incorrectly installed the old roof was, the number of tiles that broke when they were removed, the number of batons that had rotted, the valley tiles that were not supported, the number of holes in the old felt and how brittle the felt had become. Plus the water marks on the felt to the holes to show where the old roof had leaked.
That the cold water tank didn’t have a lid on it.
Cement is muck in roofing speak
How interesting I would find the process
Why I would recommend Chris to do your roof
He is very good at roofing, he has done the apprenticeship, more than that he has a passion for roofs, he will not finish until the roof is right and a completed roof is a thing of beauty to him.
His team are very good they know what they are doing
He keeps the site tidy, he removed the rubble as he went along
The new roof doesn’t leak
He did additional works, such as bricking up holes, this included some plastering, the brick work and the plastering are very good
He drove from Milton Keynes to Luton to Birmingham to find the right bricks to match the rest.
He filled in the holes in the insulation
He welcomed me on the scaffolding to see the roof being done.
He brought and placed in the roof a new cold water tank whilst the roof was open.
He kept me informed of progress
What should you do as a client?
Be clear on the work required
Pay him!!
Recognise that rain will disrupt the works
Take an interest in what is being done and appreciate a master roofer at work

Roof Repairs - & Advice

On 27 Mar 2018, Graham C wrote:

Seven years ago, CJB repaired the leaking roof on our 1850’s mid-terraced cottage. They achieved this sympathetically by removing the existing original clay tiles, cleaning them on the ground – then replacing them onto new tantalised battens & a new breathable felt, where none had previously existed, hence the leaks!! At the same time, Chris and his team constructed an insulated firewall in the attic space between us and one neighbour - and re-pointed the shared chimney arrangement with the neighbour on the other side. All of this work was carried out immaculately, with great attention to detail – and a minimum of mess, which they insisted on clearing up nightly. Based on this experience, I would have no hesitation in recommending CJB for any roofing or guttering work that you require.
More recently, seven years later, one of the adjacent neighbours had similar leaks in their main roof. However they decided to use a different contractor & re-roof in a modern, much larger cement tile – and discard the old clay tiles. As the properties are unfortunately not listed, there was nothing we could do to affect this unsympathetic approach on aesthetic grounds. However, on taking advice from CJB, free-of-charge incidentally, we were able to object to the technical manner in which the co-joint between the two roofs was proposed, on the basis that it was threatening the remaining 13 year guarantee on our repairs. The end result was a compromise, whereby the co-joint was moved 100mm away from the party wall into the neighbour’s roof space, so that any future problems did not affect us or our guarantee.
